Beautifying our County requires support and action from all of us. The Prince George’s County Beautification Initiative is a multi-departmental effort that combines the forces of the County government, local businesses, and organizations to create an environment where we can be proud to live, work, and play. But it’s missing one piece--you!

That’s why we want to challenge all Prince Georgians to make an effort to adopt at least one new activity that will help increase the cleanliness and beauty of the County. Did you know that adopting at least one new habit and practicing it every day can benefit the environment for generations? Even picking up one piece of litter makes a difference if we all do it.

We challenge you to partner with the campaign and pledge to make an effort to practice at least one positive behavior that will make our County clean and green.

Here are some easy actions you can take right now:

Cutting down on your carbon footprint:

Preventing waste:

  • Switch to reusable water bottles and travel mugs

  • Think before you hit print

  • Recycle

  • Repair, don’t toss

  • Collect rainwater for irrigation

Shopping sustainably:

  • Shop with your own reusable bags

  • Say no to receipts

  • Buy bulk foods rather than individually packaged goods

  • Shop at thrift or second-hand stores

  • Look for the ENERGY STAR®  label when buying new appliances

Making some changes around the house (and saving money):

  • Unplug chargers and appliances when not in use

  • Switch to energy-efficient light bulbs

  • Wash your laundry in cold water

  • Make your own cleaning products

  • Use cloth towels instead of paper towels

  • Fix your leaky faucets

Taking up a green hobby:

Let us know!

After choosing your new behavior, post it on your social media channels using our pre-drafted message, and don’t forget to add a picture.
